Apple revolutionary vision and the iPhone may have met their match with Google’s Nexus One. While Steve Wozniak is not giving up his iPhone he was impressed with the Nexus One he received from Google executive Andy Rubin. Just how do the two phones compare with each other?

You get a 3.7 inch display on the Nexus One compared to iPhone’s 3.5 inch diagonal display. The Nexus One also beats out the iPhone in pixels with 480 x 800 compared to 480 x 320 and 252.15 ppi as opposed to iPhone’s 163 ppi. iPhone capacitive touchscreen is designed to be used with your fingers and has the ability of multi-touch sensing. The Google phone has an illuminated trackball but is capable of multi-touch although this is not the default setting for applications if the US market.

You receive 4 GB of storage with the Nexus One but can expand to 32 GB; the iPhone comes in 16 GB and 32 GB versions. Internal RAM is 512 for the Nexus and 256 for the iPhone 3Gs.

As for the battery with the Nexus One they have a removable 1400mAh battery that lasts for up to 10 hours of talk time, 290 hours on standby and up to five hours browsing time. The iPhone has an internal battery that the user cannot replace. It provides 8 hours of talk time, 250 hours on standby and up to six hours of browsing time.

Both phone offer cameras and the Nexus One beats out the iPhone with 5.0 megapixel autofocus camera compared to the  iPhone 3Gs’ 3.2 megapixel camera which has autofocus as well.

The operating system for the Nexus One is Google’s Android 2.1 and is similar in functionality as the iPhone which runs on iPhone OS that is a variant of the Darwin core of Mac OS X.

The Nexus One is 4.7 inches high, 2.35 inches wide and .45 of an inch thick and weight 4.6 ounces with battery. The iPhone is 4.55 inches high, 2.44 inches wide and .48 of an inch thick and weight 4.8 ounces.

Pricing is another innovation that Google is offering with the Nexus One. You are able to purchase the phone for $529, unlocked. Which means you can use it without being contracted with a service provider. If you purchase through T-Mobile you will pay $179 with a two year commitment. Apples iPhone costs $299 or $199 depending upon the model and requires a two year commitment with AT&T. Your total cost for phone usage for the lifetime of the Nexus One would be $529 if you only accessed free wireless LAN networks. With a two-year commitment with T-Mobile your cost would be $2,448.76 compared to $3/799 for iPhone through AT&T.

Google’s Nexus One has a lot to offer and if it’s quality and features live up to this initial showing it may, in fact, be able to successfully compete against the hold that the Apple iPhone has had on the cell phone market for the past several years.
