Is VOIP Suitable For Individuals?
Most of the business communications are happening through VOIP and several organizations use VOIP services to communicate with their branches across the world. The VOIP service providers are ready to provide VOIP service for individuals as well. Every one of us is much used to traditional telephone systems and not many are aware of the latest VOIP technique. Even if people know about VOIP, they are still thinking whether they can be satisfied with VOIP solutions.
VOIP is a new technology that makes communication easy and possible with any part of the world. Unlike traditional telephones, data over VOIP is sent in the form of digital signals. You need to connect your computer to internet and login to your VOIP account to use your internet telephone. The greatest advantage with VOIP is that you don’t have to buy any new equipment to use your phone as internet phone. Moreover, you don’t even have to change your phone number. You can use traditional phones and make VOIP calls at VOIP rates. Your friends will never know that you are using VOIP phone to call them.
Price of VOIP is the major attraction for many individuals. If you are used to long distance calling, you may get hefty bills every month. These bills will be huge if you make calls to a very distant location. With VOIP solutions, you can easily call your local friends at reduced rates. The same VOIP service can be used to call local numbers as well. Just like traditional telephone system, individuals can use VOIP service. You can carry your internet phone wherever you go and you can utilize VOIP service anywhere as long as you have internet connection. Making a call from New York is the same as making a call from Tokyo if you are using VOIP service.
VOIP calling can also be done using computers. Computer to computer calling is free across the globe. You have to pay a small fee to call phones from computers. You can use VOIP like your pre paid cellular phones. When you buy this limited VOIP connection, you can make long distance as well as local calls until you have credits. Modern day VOIP service providers allow you to top up your VOIP cards online so that you can pay as you go. You can also buy unlimited VOIP calling for a fixed rate and pay your VOIP bills in the future.
VOIP service can’t be used when you don’t have internet connection. During times of power failures, VOIP can’t be used and you can’t get connected to your pals. This can be solved when you have some kind of power backup such as home UPS and generators to generate power. You cannot use your VOIP phones for making emergency calls. Calling 911 from VOIP phone is not possible. Internet calls can’t be utilized to find the origin of calling which is crucial for 911 services. VOIP experts are now working on these problems to make VOIP suitable for all types of individuals who want to get rid of costly telephone bills.

Great article. The husband and I dumped landlines for voip about 2 years ago and haven’t looked back since. Our friends are cell phone only but we only have prepaid so this works out. Thanks!

I understand your point about power failures and VOIP, this is the only real issue with this service but in America chances of a power failure for a long time is really low. So i think it is a good cheap alternative.

The speed of your Internet is the first and foremost important aspect of VoIP and should be the very first aspect considered in your purchase of a calling plan.
